Idebenone

An antioxidant used in age-support and radiance-focused skincare.

Antioxidant & Anti-ageing Evidence: Supportive

Ingredient overview

What is Idebenone?

Idebenone is a synthetic benzoquinone antioxidant related structurally to coenzyme Q10. It is used in some anti-aging and antioxidant skincare formulas because of its ability to participate in redox reactions and reduce oxidative stress in experimental systems.

A small clinical study of topical idebenone formulations reported improvements in hydration, roughness and photoaging-related measures, but the evidence base remains limited compared with better-established ingredients such as retinoids or vitamin C.
